Sir Never Wrong Review added: 2018.10.15
As I was not local to the Birmingham area I asked someone at the NEC where I was walking around a motorsport show if they could recommend a tyre fitters as I needed a puncture repaired as I had picked up a large screw in my front tyre in their carpark. Not the best start to a day out and 150 miles from home. I was recommended Stechford tyres by one of the NEC staff and given direction. I arrived to find a very old and slightly delapedated building which didn't really give me any confidence but I needed the tyre looking at. The staff were quick to get the car jacked up and the wheel off though so maybe my initial thoughts were unfounded. They found the screw very easily and set about repairing my tyre. I left feeling quite happy with what I thought was a good job. I parked the car up that evening outside the hotel I was staying in and all was well. When I returned to the car the following morning my tyre looked soft. I drove to the nearby petrol station to find it had lost 8psi overnight. Not good. I slightly over inflated it knowing I had a 150 mile journey ahead of me and wanted to get back without unwanted issues. Again I parked the car outside my house overnight and when I looked the next morning it had gone soft again. I drove to my local tyre fitters and explained the story. They took the tyre of the wheel and showed me, to my horror, the mess inside the tyre where the puncture had been repaired. The tyre was no longer fit to be used. They had ground the rubber away and exposed the metal cords on the inside of the tyre. The patch was just about sticking on. It ended up costing me a new tyre as well as the original cost of the puncture repair. A very dangerous repair which could have had dire consequences.
